Sundstrand Sauer Danfoss Series 15 & 18 Precautions
the variable displacement pumps and motors of the 15 & 18 series transmissions are automatically controlled. The control shaft is linked directly to the swashplate in such a way that any movement of the control shaft is in a direct proportionate swashplate movement and change in pump flow and motor shaft speed direction.
They don’t have any mechanical or hydraulic massing on the swashplate to direct back the swashplate to a neutral position. One must conclude that the parameters that were designed to control the system to be used with the 15 & 18 series pumps and motors.
By using enough constraint to make the control system hold the swashplate at the correct angle as internal forces may let the swashplate sway some in either direction. It has a “fail safe” mechanism that will make the swashplate go back to the neutral position should it have a linkage breakdown.
Minimum control force per 1000 PSI of operating pressure
15 series….65 in lbs / 1000 PSI
18 series ….125 in lbs/ 1000 PSI
Making sure you take proper precautions for the job at hand.
