Sundstrand Sauer Danfoss Series 20 Serial Number

The serial number is needed to tell the design style, build date, and when the unit was built.

The first two digits are needed to tell the important arrangements made to the unit (any improvements made, etc). These kinds of changes would affect the many parts on the unit.

The year/month (on earlier units) or year/week on older models are also needed for the identification in the serial number sequence.

Making sure you have all this information gives the supplier the numbers to help to identify the unit, give proper information for the unit and to be able to aid in ordering parts, assembly of certain area for repairs.

So when you get your unit, keep up with all this information. Take a picture of the tag and picture of the unit itself. In case at a later time the tag is unreadable or the pump has been damaged, you can give it to the supplier in a format he can tell what it is. Put that info in a safe place for use later.
