Reservoir – How They Work and Different Types

Posted by Tammy Soper on

The reservoir has four walls , dished bottom, flat top that has mounting plate , four legs, suction return, drain lines, drain plugs, oil level gauge, breather cap, clean out cover and baffle plate.

Beside it being a container, it cools the fluid so the contamination can settle and to let the air to get out. When the fluid comes back to the reservoir, baffle plate doesn’t let the fluid that is coming back to get into the lines. Not only does it get the dirt to settle, let the air rise to the fluid so it can warm it up so it can get into the reservoir walls. This is an important part of reservoir. Make sure all your lines are below fluid level and at the same height as the baffle plate side for the suction lines to work right.

There are different kinds of reservoirs, L shaped, overhead and conventional. The conventional one is the most common. The other two give you a positive head of fluid.
